So, yesterday morning during my planning period my phone rang; caller id showed that it was one of my dear friends that I made during my summer in Fargo. Now, we are all teachers, so I immediately assumed something bad must have happened because she'd never call during a school day. Nope, nothing bad she was in Dallas for a conference and asked if I wanted to come down for dinner. Now, I live 150 miles away from downtown Dallas, so I said yes. I haven't seen her since New Years Day when she played tour guide in Houston.
Oddly enough Thursday night I began a book that I bought while up in the Dakotas titled "Giants of the Earth" by Rolvaag (yeah, my reading list is delayed by two years, I still haven't read the book I got in Canada over the Medicine line- its on my list too) and thought how odd that she asked to meet yesterday! Very cool. Also strange I bought the Dakota book by Kathleen Norris this week.
She called back and asked if I wanted to meet at Medieval Times.... yeah, a trip to Dallas to see the illusion of knights in shining armor (irony there anyone). I found tickets online, buy one get one free, and we went for half the price that we thought we would. Garmin led me directly to the Castle in downtown Dallas. We entered a hall filled with teenagers, small children and parents rushing around with cameras (very Disney-Land like) ... and were finally escorted to our seats and sat down to have our shouting server telling us how to point our glasses for tea or Pepsi, while they served us our fare without silverware, a rib, chicken, soup and bread followed by a pastry (turnover). Food was good.... entertainment was good. The horsemanship was pretty cool - it was certainly something I think my kids would enjoy.
After the show we headed back north to have a "sleepover" which is very odd and haven't had one of those in ages, we had the chance to catch up and talk. It was a nice night, woke up and headed home, stopped for some tax free groceries and enjoyed buying a cartload with a 9% discount (our sales tax) the tax break bought one tank of gas! So I can buy fuel and drive to Texas for the principal or I can pay taxes on food (which shouldn't be taxed in my opinion). I think if people on food stamps are not taxed then no one should be taxed on food. It doesn't make sense does it? So I made it home this afternoon, napped and now I'm up.
It was a good trip, with a much different mindset than my trip of a month ago, no pain, no heartache, a supportive husband watching the kids- NO OTHER MEN - to mess me up emotionally, the only knights in shining armor were the entertainment of the evening - that made the difference - I've had a week of nothing but running from WWE - the Cardiologist to Dallas - I'm ready for Spring Break so I can stay home and catch up in the house.
So, now, I'm going to bed.... exhaustion wins....
